On October 30, 2025, the Faculty of Hydrology & Water Resources Engineering at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) successfully organized a crucial seminar on “Macroplastic and Microplastic Assessment in Rivers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event drew 42 participants<\/strong>, including students from the Water and Environmental Engineering<\/strong> program and staff from GRU<\/strong> and various ministries<\/strong>. Attendees gained valuable insights into cutting-edge research and frameworks<\/strong> concerning plastic and microplastic pollution in both freshwater ecosystems and the marine environment<\/strong>. The discussion also featured updates on the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)<\/strong>‘s efforts toward the Global Plastics Treaty<\/strong> and the work of the Scientists\u2019 Coalition Network to combat plastic pollution.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar was greatly enhanced by the contributions of two distinguished guest lecturers from the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA)<\/a><\/strong>, Norway: Dr. Rachel Hurley<\/strong><\/a> and Ms. Vilde Kloster Snekkevik<\/strong><\/a> . Their presentation was part of the broader ASEAN-Norwegian Cooperation Project (ASEANO project)<\/a><\/strong> which ITC is an implementation partner in Cambodia, and this project aims to reduce plastic pollution across the ASEAN Region<\/strong>.
